Córdoba CF has announced one of the highlights of the pre-season. On July 23, they will face Sevilla in the fourth edition of the Puertas de Córdoba Tournament. In this way, the blanquiverde entity repeats the idea of bringing the Nuevo Arcángel to a team from the First Division. The meeting, which serves as a warm-up for the first team, has as a common denominator the confrontation of the team trained by Iván Ania against a team from the top category of Spanish football. Cádiz, which won the first edition by penalty shootout, opened the tournament's palmarés. In the following edition, Córdoba won 1-0 against Rayo Vallecano and in the last edition, Betis won 3-4. That match, by the way, generated a lot of expectation. And proof of this is that Córdoba hung the 'no tickets available' sign, responding to the expectations generated by Ania's team and also due to the proximity to Sevilla, which fueled the desire of many verdiblancos fans to see their team in action in one of the few matches they played in the pre-season in Spanish soil. Also, the last official precedent between both teams took place in the Copa del Rey. It happened in November of the 21-22 season, when Córdoba was in the Segunda Federación. The team from Seville, trained by Lopetegui, needed extra time to pass the elimination in a match that reached 20,000 spectators in the stadium's grandstand. In part, that success in the match against Real Betis has made Córdoba choose to invite Sevilla FC this time. It ensures a significant return on investment and also represents an important test for Córdoba's preparation phase, which plans to return to training in the first week of July. Therefore, it will be one of the first matches they will play ahead of a season that is scheduled to start in the second week of August. Despite the fact that the preparation phase schedule has not been disclosed, everything suggests that Ania wants to repeat what was done last season. That is, one or two friendly matches before this one. And, with the advanced squad, they will travel to the Valencia town of Oliva, where they will also play some more preparation matches to fine-tune for the start of the competition.
